TESTIMONIALS

This is our second year at Unity. Our son has thoroughly enjoyed playing with the club and as a parent I see a lot of things that I love. Firstly the club preaches on integrity, both on and off the court. I have seen this grow in many of the boys on the team including my own son. Secondly respect, both to the coaches and between the boys is highly encouraged. "We're family" is very apparent on the team.   This year the team split into two teams as more boys joined the club, but the core values are still very strong and both teams are very close to each other. As a parent, seeing the growth in my son as a person both on and off the court is something I really appreciate.

What about the volleyball? I can say that my son has grown leaps and bounds every year. The team is successful not only because they are taught to be supportive, and the environment is a safe one, but because there is a strong work ethic taught to them. The boys learn to work hard and play hard. The coaches are extremely dedicated. Coach Siu On lives, breathes, and eats volleyball and it shows. His assistant staff is just as dedicated spending countless hours pouring not only their time and effort into the boys but coaching them to be better people as well.

My son said to me at try outs, "If I don't make this team, I don't want to play anywhere else". That says something. We feel blessed to have been able to share this journey with Coach Siu On and his staff. Thank you!

This year my son decided to try out for the 15U Unity team. From the moment he showed up he was welcomed, taught and never treated like a number. We have had clear communication with different levels within the club and have felt valued. The administration has made efforts to bring the parents and kids together at events to celebrate and thank the parents. The coaches are knowledgeable, kind and easy to talk to. They are respectful of both the players and the parents and these qualities have also been adapted by my son as he has had such good examples. From our experiences on this team, both my husband and I feel that they are not only interested in developing our son as a volleyball player but also as a responsible and kind young man that will contribute positively and respectively to society, developing the confidence he will need to be successful. We have been involved with other clubs before this with our kids and feel blessed by the Unity opportunity.

It is often difficult to find a sport that your kids would love to play and continue to play.  Often it is just a season of this and a season of that, it’s just a phase.  We stumbled into volleyball after trying many sports.  Little did we know that this sport of volleyball would be the beginning of our family finding community and a sense of belonging.  Our kids like to play volleyball but it was through a very unique coach that they love the game.  Our eldest son has been coached by him since the start and although he is not the tallest nor the biggest, he does play a big game because of the coaching he has received.  We love the game not just for the competition but for the life lessons that it brings.

Through volleyball, Coach Siu On has taught our son the meaning of competition, hard work, responsibility, respect and most importantly how to be young man on and off the court.  Coach Siu On not only coaches the boys but he instills in them a sense of belonging, being part of a brotherhood supporting each other and lifting each other up and being positive always. Far from being a soft coach, he holds our son, his teammates and those he coaches to the highest level of integrity for his/her action and speech.  It is rare to find an individual that not only coaches but also mentors and cares deeply how each player matures.

Our Unity volleyball club is not just a place where we go to play volleyball, it’s more than just a gathering of people, it is a family and a fellowship where we all share in bringing up our sons/daughters to be productive and passionate individuals that would be an influence to those around them.  Unity is a great community to be part of, a great environment for life lessons, a great fellowship of people sharing a common passion to see our children grow and as an added bonus watch the future generation compete, grow and gain valuable life lessons.
